Obituary of Allen D. Kitt

Allen D. Kitt, 100, of Huntington County passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at Heritage Pointe, Warren. Allen graduated from Rock Creek High School in 1937. Allen and his wife, Sarah Lee resided and farmed land in Rock Creek Township near Browns Corner for 67 years. He raised and sold registered Hampshire hogs and was very active in supporting kids in their 4-H Swine Project. Allen was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church. He drove a school bus for 20 years. Allen was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching his Cubbies baseball and all college basketball. Allen will be remembered for his amazing basketball skills he demonstrated in a Huntington ‘Old Timers’ basketball tourney. At the age of 73, he made 17 free throws in a row that regained him his high school nickname, “Eagle Eye”. Allen loved planting and caring for his beautiful, huge, yellow dinner plate dahlias in the Memory Garden at the home. He was born June 3, 1919 in Huntington, the only son of Ora B. and Lois (Jones) Kitt. He married Sarah Lee Winter on July 30, 1944. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2011. He loved spending time with his family of three daughters, Sharyn Staley (Jack) of Carmel, Nancy Eppard (Gary) of Yorktown, and Lynda Buckland (Bill) of Huntington. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Suzie Martin (Josh) of Fishers, Michelle Essex of Muncie, Jason Eppard (Amy) of Yorktown, Angie Miller (Nate Murchland) of Huntington, Alisa Buckland-Hannon (John) of Huntington, Matt Buckland (Ashley) of Huntington and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel, 801 Huntington Avenue, Warren, Indiana. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel with Rev. Gerald Mooreland officiating. Interment will be in the Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington County 4-H Fair Association in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770.
