Obituary of George Kenneth Hodges
George Kenneth Hodges, 89, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. He was born in Henry County on September 26, 1929 to George Dewey Hodges and Virginia Thomasson Hodges. He was an army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the 578th Engineer Battalion where he received the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, worked 40 years for American Furniture Company, retired from West Window Corporation and later worked 13 years for Enterprise Automotive Rentals. He was a member of Fontaine Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia H. “Phoebe” Leach, and an infant daughter, Betsy Carol Hodges. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Imogene Duncan Hodges; daughter, Vicky H. Hines (Mike) of Midlothian, son, Donald R. Hodges (Susan) of Martinsville; two sisters, Dorothy H. Cardwell of Ridgeway, Nancy H. Stowe (Marshall) of Martinsville; four brothers, Earl Hodges (Dot) of Collinsville, Glenwood Hodges (Theresa) of Ridgeway, Howard Hodges (Betty) of Axton, and Jack Hodges (Betty Jean) of Ridgeway; four grandchildren, Heather Hines Kalill (Ken) of Martinsville, Rob Hines (Kira) of Midlothian, George Hodges (Skye) of Belmont, NC, Ginny Hodges McLendon (Martin) of Atlanta; six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ian Kalill and Leah, Cana and Selah Hines and Starling Hodges. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2-3:30 pm McKee-Stone Funeral Home and other times at the home of Heather and Ken Kalill. A private burial with military honors will be Monday, November 19 at 10:00am at Roselawn Burial Park. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:00am at McKee-Stone Funeral Home (109 Broad Street, Martinsville). In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Kenneth’s honor may be given to Fontaine Baptist Church, 170 Fisher Farm Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112 or to the Spencer-Penn Centre, P.O.
