Obituary of Mr. Park Alton Dodd, Jr.
DODD, Park Alton Jr., 87, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jennie Sue Dodd, long-time residents of Caroline County, Va. Park was born on January 24, 1931, in Washington, D.C. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Park was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees. In addition he has served his community as an active member of the Reedy Church Ruritan Club, The Virginia Farm Bureau, Caroline County Electoral Board and the Caroline/Hanover Soil and Water Board. A proud member of the Masonic Fraternity, Mr. Dodd was a member of Ashland Lodge #168 for over 50 years and a 33 Degree Scottish Rite Freemason for over 40 years. Park served on numerous committees in the Scottish Rite and was especially proud of his work with the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center. Park worked 40 years for Beacon Press, a commercial printing company in Richmond, Va., retiring as President. He loved his farm in Caroline County, Va. and spent many years enjoying all aspects of the farm with his wife, Sue and family, but especially raising cows. Park was a very caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Dodd is survived by his sister Arlene Stimac (Dave) of Commerce Township, Mich.; son, Park A. Dodd III (Sue) of Richmond; daughter, Deborah Lassiter (Kris) of Reidsville, N.C.; son, Stan Dodd (Karen) of Oak Ridge, N.C.; his six grandchildren, Park A. Dodd IV (Erin), Fleming Dodd (Lara), Adam Lassiter (Susannah), Carrie Sue Deal (Chris), Morgan Dodd, Alexandra Dodd; and his six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to offer tremendous thanks to all of the caregivers and support from Heartland Hospice Care. An extended thanks goes to all of the staff and friends at The Crossings at Hanover for their care and support. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116, followed immediately with the funeral service with Rev. Angela Kittrell and Rev. Justin Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church at 17380 Dawn Boulevard, Hanover, Va. 23069 or The Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center at 4202 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23227.
