Obituary of Marcelyn Boldt Bubas
BUBAS, Marcelyn Boldt "Tootie," passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 22, 2018, in Virginia, at the age of 89. Tootie was born on June 29, 1929, in Gary, Indiana. She attended Lew Wallace High School, where, as a freshman, she met the love of her life, Victor "Vic" Bubas. The two married on June 19, 1949, and shared a storybook marriage of almost 70 years before Vic preceded Tootie in death earlier this year. Tootie will be remembered for her beautiful dimpled smile, neverending positivity, infectious optimism, generous spirit and spunk, which never ceased. She was an avid gardener, reader, Facebooker, emailer, volunteer and golfer, playing into her 70s. She cherished the friends that she made throughout her life in the places she and Vic called home: Raleigh, North Carolina; Durham, North Carolina; Kerr Lake, North Carolina; Tampa, Florida; Land O'Lakes, Florida and Bluffton, South Carolina. After relocating to Virginia several years ago, she spent her days enjoying her local family as well as frequent visits from family who lived out of town. She rarely missed her great-grandchildren's sporting events, school plays and activities. Tootie was also instrumental in her husband Vic's legendary career in coaching and higher education. She provided both strategic and administrative support of his endeavors and forged meaningful relationships with the athletes, families and fellow leaders with whom they worked. She also never tired of watching college basketball. Tootie leaves behind three daughters, Sandra Bubas Yarbrough, Vikki Bubas Baird and Karen Bubas Myers (Jack); nine loving grandchildren, Victor Todd Yarbrough, Emily Yarbrough Weinstein (Todd), Margaret Yarbrough Hancock (Frank), Laura Allen Baird, Edward Ross Baird (Jen), Jay Michael Myers (Ashlyn), John Bradley Baird, Henry Everett Baird and Mary Margaret Myers; and eight adoring great-grandchildren, Joseph Milton Weinstein, Margaret Katherine Weinstein, Graham Walker Weinstein, Evelyn Boldt Hancock, Anne Frances Weinstein, Frank Woodson Hancock IV, Mosby Stuart Hancock and Jack Theodore Baird. In addition to her husband of 69 years, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Marguerite and Edward Boldt; and brother, Edward. To know Tootie was to love Tootie, and she will be missed by all who crossed her path. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Road, in Richmond, Virginia, with a reception to follow at Salisbury Country Club. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tootie's joyous life.
