Obituary of Betty Johnson
Betty J. Johnson, 89, Muncie, passed away on Friday, July, 1, 2021, at Morrison Woods with her family at her side. She wanted to be with the love of her life, Donald G. Johnson. She passed on his birthday. Betty was born January 4, 1932, in Toronto, Canada, daughter of Floyd and Edna Ostrander. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan and Henderson, Nevada. She graduated from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a proud Air Force spouse for twenty years stationed in Japan, Las Vegas and Michigan, and Muncie at Ball State’s ROTC Program. She met Don at a USO dance in Henderson, Nevada. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother, a talented painter and loved to play Bingo. She loved her flower gardens and making Christmas cookies for family and friends. She was a member of the Muncie Moose Club. She was a loan officer at Mutual Home Savings and Loans Bank. Betty’s sons were her world, Michael (Peggy) and Jeffrey (Jacky); grandchildren, Jeremy (Candy) Mellinger, Kamala Mellinger, Heidi (Sean) Hale, Erik (Kimberlee) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tulsa Mellinger, Alec, Sarah and Adam Hale, and Patriot and Samantha Johnson; many loved nieces and nephews; and her doggy, Trigger. She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Edna Ostrander; husband, Donald G. Johnson; sister-in-law, Shirley LaVigne; sisters, Fran (Joe) Ream and Mary (Alden) Sawyer; brother, Charles (Darlene) Ostrander; and niece, Mary Jo Ream. We would like to give a huge thank you to the nurses and staff of Morrison Woods Legacy Building. They loved Grandma Betty! They took exceptionally good care of our Mother/Grandma! The staff are angels! We love you all. Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 4:00p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00p.m. until 4:00p.m., followed by the service at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
