Charles R. Slaven

Charles “Buddy” Slaven, 70, of Muncie, passed away at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
He was born on Friday, January 19, 1951, the son of Francis “Ed” Slaven and Neva (Simpson) Slaven. Charles married Veda Young on March 2, 1968, and she survives.
Charles was a family man first and foremost. He loved holidays and getting together with his family. He enjoyed fishing and boating. Charles loved playing his banjo, and had an amazing singing voice that sounded like George Jones. He attended Westside United Baptist Church, and was a member of the Delaware Masonic Lodge #46 FM.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of fifty three years, Veda; sons, Charles Bradley Slaven, and Gerry Edward Slaven (wife, Amy); daughter, Natalie Slaven Dearduff (husband, Mark); brother, Rob Slaven; sisters, Glenda Silvey and Mary Waters; grandchildren, Steven Slaven, Brittany Slaven, Amber Slaven, Jayden Slaven and Aiden Dearduff; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Doty, Ellie Slaven, and Rowan Slaven; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Neva Slaven; and brothers, Clarence Slaven and James “Bud” Slaven.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Westside United Baptist Church, 3021 West Cornbread Road, Muncie, Indiana 47302.
Funeral services will be held at Westside United Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Waters will officiate. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing are required.
