Obituary of Shirley Ann Diehl
Shirley Ann Diehl, age 85, of New Albany, Indiana entered eternal life on Friday, January 13, 2023. Daughter of the late John Meyer and Julia (Breier) Meyer. Shirley was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 19, 1937. She was married 58 years to her late husband, Robert Diehl. Shirley took pride in being a caring housewife and mother to her 4 children. As a military wife, she supported and enjoyed the travels and life changes this brought to her and her family and was honored to be a member of the Navel CPO wives club through many years she held jobs at Scruggs Department Store, Hawaiian Candle Company, and eventually retiring from the United States Postal Service. One of 10 children, she loved being with her family, especially her two sisters. An avid music lover, Shirley loved live rock and roll shows. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, games, and going to the movies. She planted and kept beautiful flowers. Shirley was a lifetime bowler and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Most of all in the past few years, her heart was full of love for her companion dog, Penny. Her presence and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Her legacy continues through her 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. Shirley is survived by her sons, Robert Diehl, Timothy Diehl (Vicki) Chris Diehl (Brenda); daughter, Lisa Diehl (Kimberly); grandchildren, Ashley Avis (Branden), Tyler Diehl, Zachary Diehl, and Stephanie Diehl; great-grandsons, Owen and Brooks Avis; sisters, Myrt and Dinky; and brothers, John and David; and last but not least her little dog, Penny.
