Obituary of Arthur A. Paul
Arthur A. Paul, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Hamilton Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech at Northwestern University while majoring in Radio, Television and Film. He did post-graduate work in Theatre Arts at the University of Arizona. He was a Commander in the U.S. Navy. Arthur was owner and President of Arthur A. Paul Associates. He served in positions ranging from Assistant Director to President and General Manager of public television stations in Evansville, Indiana, Sacramento, California, Syracuse, New York and Tucson, Arizona. He was Head of Television Services at the University of California, Riverside. He was the only station manager in the history of PBS to be elected to the Public Broadcasting Service Board of Managers through the process of nomination by petition of his colleagues. He founded the Association of California Public Television Stations, Inc. and served as its President. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Television Advisory Committee on the California State Commission. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Western Educational Network, Trustee for the United Way, Member of Advisory Board of the National Alliance of Businessmen, member of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Urban Coalition, Chairman of the Sacramento Harness Racing Charity Days Foundation, Vice President for Public Affairs of the U.S. Navy League, member of Sutter Club, Evansville Downtown Rotary, Evansville Chamber of Commerce, Serra Club, member of the Board of Directors for the Indiana Public Broadcasting Society, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Palczynski and Helen Paul; and brother, James Paul. Arthur is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Jo; sons, Christian A. Paul (Deanne) of McKinney, TX, Michael Paul (Erin) of Annapolis, MD; grandchildren, Brendan, Elyse, Ryan, James, and Caitlin; brother, Richard Paul; brothers-in-law, Richard Kerschbaum (Rebecca), John Kersch, Dr. Richard Treloar; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Treloar. Services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, officiated by Father Thomas Kessler. Friends may visit Sunday, 1-3:00 PM, with Military Honors performed by American Legion Kapperman Post 44 at 3:00 PM, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261.
