Obituary of Bettie Jean Scott
Bettie Jean (Fulton) Scott, 87, of Newburgh passed away at 6:52 PM, Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. Bettie was born September 3, 1926 in Evansville. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1944 and Lockyear Business College. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and a charter member of St. John’s East UCC. During her years at St. John’s East, she taught Sunday School, served on the Church council and other committees. She was a member of the Women’s Guild, Ann Circle and Altar Guild. She organized the delivery of food to local pantries and served others with her personal card ministry. She was a member of the Goodwill Auxiliary. Bettie was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for 68 years. She spent many hours volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader, trainer, camp director, a member of the Silver and Gold Awards committee and Daisy Donors. Bettie celebrated her 12th year survival of breast cancer at the 2013 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She participated in every walk and supported other cancer survivors since her diagnosis. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Clara (Pohl) Fulton; brother, John Fulton; and her husband, Edwin Scott, Jr. of 61 years. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Bill Ford of Florence, KY and Ginger and Jerry Schaperjohn of Newburgh; grandchildren, Andrew Hess and wife Monica, Kari Hess, Greg Schaperjohn and wife Jennifer and Jason Schaperjohn; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Addie, and Marley Hess and Tucker Schaperjohn; and sisters, Geraldine Acker and Marlene Edwards. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 2, 2013, at St. John’s East UCC, 7000 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Townsend, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 SR 261, Newburgh and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Charlier Hospice Center, 610 E. Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713, Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana “Daisy Donors” 223 NW 2nd Street, Evansville, IN, or St. John’s East UCC.
