Mary Martelea Baker, 94, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born September 10, 1915, in Harrisburg, IL to Grace and Hal Wilson.
Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved children and was active in substitute teaching while her son was in school. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles and crosswords. Mary was an award winning classical pianist specializing in Bach and Beethoven. Mary graduated Suma Cum Ladas from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale majoring in education and language. She had taught in Elgin, IL teaching French in a private school.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney Wayne Baker. Mary is survived by her son, Michael C. Baker of Newburgh.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 18, 2010, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ferd Elfreich. A graveside service will be held Friday at 3:00 PM at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL. Friends may visit Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
