Obituary of Walter B. McGee
Walter B. McGee, 81, Newburgh, IN, died Monday, September 10, 2018, his wife by his side. He was born August 10, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Walter is survived by his wife Patsy Niblack McGee of Newburgh, IN; his son Walter T. McGee, of Louisville, KY; a brother Sam McGee of Stanford, KY; a sister Mary Ann Meyer of New Albany, IN; a sister-in-law Dolores Roberson, of Lexington, KY; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Gene McCord, of Highland Heights, KY; and nieces and nephews. He graduated with degrees from Lindsey Wilson College, Western Kentucky University and Vanderbilt University Divinity School. He was an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and in that capacity, served as a local pastor, including Baskett Christian Church in Henderson County; Wesley Foundation Director at Western Kentucky University; Chaplain at Community Methodist Hospital; and pastoral counselor. He was coordinator of the first Henderson County Schools Family Resource Center. Walter was the proud owner of numerous antique clocks, which he collected, repaired, and restored. As a hobby, he also repaired and restored clocks for other people. He enjoyed amateur photography and traveling as much as his health would allow. He was a member of the Henderson Lions Club for 38 years serving as secretary, vice president, president, member of the board of directors, and chairperson of four committees. He was voted Lion of the Year and received the Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor bestowed on a member. Walter was involved in the organization of St. Anthony’s Hospice in Henderson from its beginning and remained on the board of directors as Member Emeritus. Through his thirty-two years as a Henderson resident, he also served in various capacities in numerous other community organizations. A Memorial Service to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at 2:00 PM CDT, Saturday, September 15, at First United Methodist Church, 338 Third Street, Henderson, KY officiated by Rev.
