Eugenio N Aquino

Eugenio (Gene) Aquino, 89, of Virginia Beach, passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Born in Bacolor, Pampanga, Philippines, he was the son of the late Emiliano Aquino and Rufina Nacpil.
He joined the U.S. Navy a year after the end of the Korean War. He served on numerous naval vessels including the USS Prairie and the USS Forrestal. Eugenio is a Vietnam War Veteran. After more than 21 years of service, he retired as a Machinery Repairman Chief. In his second career, he was a Machinist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 31. He loved working as a machinist but retired after 21 years to help raise his grandsons.
Eugenio was predeceased by his son Elmer and his granddaughter, Erica. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lolita; his daughter, Eileen; his son Eugene; and his two grandsons: Eann-Emil and Evan.
He will be missed for his kindness, humor, and "I can fix anything" attitude.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane in Virginia Beach. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM; there will also be praying of the rosary that will start at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 12:30 PM.
