John Steven Bryan

J. Steven Bryan, 69, died October 5, 2018. Steven was predeceased by his parents Lewis H. and Margaret K. Bryan of Norfolk, Virginia and his Brother-in-law Oscar Gershenoff of Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by his partner in life Christy Elliott, his son Steven Bryan, his sisters Pat Gershenoff and Deborah (Ken) Hanie, nieces Petra Blum and Sarah Friedman (Carey), nephew Max Gershenoff (Lana), great nieces Sophie Friedman and Orly Gershenoff, great nephews Huck Friedman and Asher Gershenoff, his special little buddy Logan Elliott, treasured friends Linda Martin and Sydney Coelho, and finally Boo the feral cat. Steven graduated from The Miller School of Albemarle in Charlottesville, received a BA from Methodist University, and his Master’s Degree from University of Utah. He was a career Human Resources specialist. Steven was a decorated Viet Nam veteran, earning the Bronze Star. He was currently serving as the Post Commander of VFW #6364. Steven will be remembered for his deep friendships, his mentoring, his countless volunteer hours assisting veterans and their families, his generosity of spirit, his love of gardening, cats, and a good book. A memorial service is planned for Friday, October 12, at the Parham Chapel of the Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, at 4pm. A reception will follow.
