Ashworth, Luther Ray, 82 of Richmond, VA died peacefully at his home on May 9th, 2018. Born in Danville, VA on October 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Clarence Luther Ashworth and Nann Eva Mize Ashworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Moyler Munford Ashworth, and his sister Peggy Ashworth Bentley. Ray is survived by his children, Sallie Ashworth Medlin and her husband, Grady of Surry, VA, George Munford Ashworth and his wife, Kelly of Ashland, VA, and Anne Munford Ashworth and her husband, Yousri Bel Hadj of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Melissa Curl Nelms(Greg), Angela Lynn Curl, and Jennifer Curl Bryant(Jimmy), Luther Ray Ashworth, II(Jennifer), John Reid Ashworth(Stephanie), Berkley Dianne Ashworth and five great grandchildren. Ray was educated at Whitmell Farmlife High School in Pittsylvania County and the University of Richmond. He served in the U.S.Army. He was the CEO of Wakefield Oil Company from 1960-1979 and was elected to the Virginia General Assembly in 1969 and served until 1982. He was Executive Vice President of the Virginia Trucking Association from 1981-1991.He served on the Board of Directors for the following: Richmond College Alumni Association, Sons of the American Revolution in the State of Virginia, Southeast 4-H Educational Center, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Virginia State Fair. He served on the board of the Jamestown- Yorktown Foundation for 46 years. He was a member of The Commonwealth Club and St. James’s Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held at 11a.m., May 24th at St. James’s Episcopal Church, 1205 W Franklin Street, Richmond, VA 23220, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James’s Episcopal Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.nelsenrichmond.com
