Obituary of Mary Jean Pokrywka
Mary Jean Pokrywka, currently of Glen Allen, Virginia, formerly of Milo, Maine, and many other places she called home, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her favorite people, on June 29, 2022. Mary Jean was born to Marion (nee Glatt) and Eugene Henle on October 22, 1942. She was their only child and was beloved by them and a host of aunts and uncles. She went to Kane High School in Pennsylvania. After graduating, Mary Jean attended Buffalo General School of Nursing and graduated with honors, and was then employed at Buffalo General Hospital as an ICU nurse. In April of 1963, Mary Jean took a trip to Miami, Florida, that would alter the course of her life. It was on this trip that she met the love of her life. Stanley Pokrywka, Sr. They had a whirlwind, long-distance romance and were married in October 1965. Stan survives Mary Jean. She and Stan had four sons, who were her life's pride. Stan, Jr (Jenni), Mike (Mirna), John (Kelly), and Matt (Jen) all cherish their mother’s memory. Mary Jean is also survived by eight grandchildren, Zach, Lucas, Claire (Stan and Jenni), Allie, Jack (Mike and Mirna), Via, Stella (John and Kelly), and Kai (Matt and Jen). Mary Jean was many things to many people. She was a wife and mother first, a nurse, a caretaker, a cat lover, and an avid reader. She and Stan worked side-by-side in many businesses throughout their long and loving marriage. Mary Jean took great pride in every role, but her sons and her family were her greatest joy. She instilled a love of family in everyone lucky enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary of Milo, ME. A private memorial is planned for the family.
