Obituary of Metta Nuon
On August 12th, 2019 our beloved brother, uncle and a great father to his son John passed away at the age of 50. Metta was born on February 10th, 1969 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to his father Kim Chhan Nuon and mother Vandy Chhor. He has four siblings: an older brother and two younger brothers who passed away during the Khmer Rouge. Metta is survived by his son John, his father Kimchhan, his brother Karuna, his niece Angela and his nephew Eric. Metta and his father survived the Khmer Rouge ordeal during the period of 1975 - 1979. Metta escaped from Cambodia and arrived in Thailand in 1979 with his dad, grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousins. There he stayed in a total of three refugee camps. The last camp was the Lumpini refugee camp where he stayed for 3 years due to the illness of his aunt Pom Sen. Metta finally arrived in the United States of America along with his dad Kimchhan, his grandmother Pram, his aunt Pom Sen in 1982. As soon as he arrived in the United States, Metta began his education at Three Chopt Elementary School, Tuckahoe Middle School and graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in 1989. He also attended Hermitage Vocational School where he received a certificate in Electronics. After high school, Metta attended J. Sargeant Reynold Community College where he received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electronics and Computer Technology in 1991. He began his first career at EMC in Ashland, Virginia from 1991-1996. Afterward, he worked as an Information System Specialist with SunTrust Bank in Richmond from 1996 – 2000. After his career with Sun Trust Bank, Metta moved to live in Northern Virginia and started a new job and life as a Lead Assembler at Communication Applied Technology in Reston, Virginia from 2001-2008. While working there, he attended Strayer University in Ashburn studying Computer Networking from 2001 -2003. Next, he started his professional career as a technician with CVG-AVTEC Company in Chantilly, Virginia from 2008 -2013. After he got laid off from CVG-AVTEC Company, Metta decided to move back to Richmond to live with his father. Metta’s last career was an Electrical Test Technician at Power Distribution Inc in Richmond, Virginia from November of 2015 to the end his life in August 12th of 2019. Metta has left this earth but he will forever be remembered in our hearts and memories. Someday we all will be reunited in God’s heaven.
