Daisy Liang Tagge (梁佩璠) passed away peacefully at home in Alexandria Virginia, on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 at the age of 79. She was born on February 6th, 1942 to Tin-Mou Liang and Sylvia Wang in Chengdu, China. She lost her father in a flight mission during the second world war while she was only one-year old. Her mother married her stepfather Hsiang-Chang Richard Liu who helped raise her through adulthood. Despite the on-going tumultuous war, she had a happy and cultured upbringing, attending international language schools in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In 1949 she and her family moved to Taiwan. It was in Taichung, Taiwan that she met her husband Raymond C. Tagge while he was assigned by the US Air Force to fly special missions during the Vietnam conflict. They married in 1969 and enjoyed a happy marriage for the next 50 years. Daisy started her Federal Government career in Taiwan with the United States Air Force. She moved to the United States in 1969. Daisy and her husband settled in Alexandria Virginia, where they remained for their entire marriage. Daisy began her career at the Library of Congress in the late 1970s. She earned a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland while working full time as a preliminary cataloger at the Library of Congress. She continued her career obtaining a professional position as a descriptive cataloger. She was later promoted as the Assistant Head of the Chinese Section in the Descriptive Cataloging Division. From 2008, Daisy worked as a librarian in the United Kingdom and Ireland Section (UKI) in the U.S./Anglo Division. Daisy continued to perform whole item cataloging, while acquiring the skills to become an excellent acquisitions specialist. For many years, she was responsible for all special purchases for the section. During her time at the Library of Congress and the UKI Section, she trained many librarians and library technicians in cataloging, copy cataloging, and acquisitions. In 2011, Daisy was promoted to serve as acting section head of UKI. Daisy Tagge, retired on January 2, 2021 after more than 50 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Government and the Library of Congress. Beside her professional life, Daisy loved to travel, and she visited many countries around the world with her husband Ray. With Ray’s encouragement, she learned how to pilot an airplane and earned a private pilot license. They took many trips around the United States, Canada and the Caribbean in their own private airplane, which they owned for a number of years. Flying and travel was a focal point in their lives together. Daisy was also an avid gardener, especially tending her beautiful collection of orchids. Daisy is survived by her two brothers, Keh-Fei Frank Liu of Lexington, Kentucky and Keh-Fan Michael Liu of Millington, New Jersey , two nieces Amy and Helen Liu, one nephew Alexander Liu, Peter Tagge [stepson] and his wife Camelia [daughter in law] and grandson, David Raymond Tagge. She is predeceased by her older sister Betty Liang of New York City, and her husband of 50 years, Col. Raymond C. Tagge, United States Air Force.
