IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
Frances "Arlene" Heater passed peacefully from this world on 28 April. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by sons Mark, Bruce, Brian and Miles, and her sister Shirley.
Born 14 May 1925, Arlene grew up on the wheat fields of western Kansas, but longed to see the world. She flew into Berlin during the airlift to work at the US Consulate, where she met her husband, Russell. Together they represented their country for 32 years, in Germany, Australia, Haiti, Congo, France, and Kenya. As the family matriarch, Arlene welcomed five daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren into the clan. Upon their retirement, Arlene and Russell embraced their passion for travel, visiting Africa, America, Asia, and Oceana, including at least 16 trips to Australia.
She spent her last 14 years enjoying every aspect of Greenspring Village retirement community, where she is survived by many close friends.
Those who cherish Arlene's memory may make a contribution to the Lane County Historical Society, PO Box 821, Dighton , Kansas, 67839.
A celebration service will take place at Greenspring Village Chapel in Springfield, Virginia, at 11 a.m. On 12 May.
