Demaine Funeral Home

Nancy Isidoro Sharkus, 70, passed away on February 17, 2021 from an unexpected heart attack. Although a failing heart took her from us, she will be especially remembered for her compassionate heart. She consistently demonstrated a notable kindness and generosity to other people, always willing to help them. Nancy was born in Baltimore to Daniel and Lucille Isidoro. She moved with her family early in her life to Orlando, Florida where she graduated from Bishop Moore High School. She then attended Florida State University where she received a B.S. in Biology. It was there that she met her future husband, Donald Sharkus. The two were married in Orlando in September 1972 and subsequently took residence in Alexandria, Virginia. Nancy initially worked for the Department of Agriculture, but in 1974 she started a long connection with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) working at the library for 7 years and then as a contract medical indexer in support of NLM with various companies for 35 years, including 20 years with Kelly & Dewitt Inc. Nancy is survived by her husband, Donald Sharkus and daughter, Astrid Sharkus, and by her brother, Daniel R. Isidoro and his wife Rebecca; and their sons, Daniel II, Michael and Andrew, by her mother Lucille Isidoro and her brother-in-law Charles Sharkus and sister-in-law Pamela and her husband Bill Findley. Furthermore, she is survived by the great many friends with whom she she shared her kindhearted spirit. Nancy had a passion for food and cooking. She completed the Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts program at the Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia. While she shared her learning with several local businesses, her talents were primarily enjoyed by her family and friends. She had a love of reading, travel and was an ardent lover of animals, especially the labrador retrievers (Katya, Tzeitel and Maggie) and rabbit (Smokey) that shared her home. The family asks for your understanding that no service will be performed at this time. A future memorial service may be announced. They ask that in lieu of flowers or other memorial gifts that you honor her memory by finding ways to express your heartfelt sympathy and support for the myriad families and individuals who need our help in this difficult time.
