W. Wayne Brinkley, 68, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on January 20, 1943, in Staunton, the son of the late Malcolm Brinkley and Frances (Price) Brinkley Rowe.
Wayne was an outstanding athlete during his youth having played baseball and basketball at Robert E. Lee High School. Following graduation played for the Staunton Braves and was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Survivors include his children, Michael Brinkley Lambert of Virginia Beach, Kasey Brinkley of Tennessee and Sarah Brinkley Armstrong of Staunton; one sister, Marcia Warren of Greenville; five grandchildren; aunts, Stella Price Montague and Loyce Price; and a special friend, Anne See.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 West Frederick Street, with the Reverend Donald Simmons officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011, before the service at the funeral home.
