Obituary of Delores J. Pierce
Delores Julia Pierce, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend was born into eternal life on the morning of her 92nd birthday, October 24, 2012 at Southwood Nursing Home. Delores was born in Diamond, Indiana on October 24, 1920, the 8th of 11 children to the late Joseph and Anna (Skokan) Klain. She was united in marriage on March 31, 1940 to Elwood Pierce, who preceded her in death in 1975. Delores worked at Bemis Company, Inc. for 47 years and retired at the age of 77. As a faithful, dedicated, hardworking and devoted woman, Delores’ family was her first priority. Delores was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping, tending to her flowers and gardening, spending time outside and most of all, spending time with her family. Her giving nature, kind and caring personality will live on in the hearts of those she touched for generations to come. Delores leaves behind her two children, Judith Ann and husband Robert L. McDonald of Terre Haute and Carolyn Sue and husband Kenneth W. McClara of Avon. She was the proud and loving grandma of Angelia and husband Jeffrey Mason of Lexington, VA., Julie Vanlandingham of Terre Haute, Scot and wife Linda McClara of Jamestown, William Terry Abel, Jr. of Columbus, Jason and wife Denise McClara of Speedway and Colin Way of Ocala, FL. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Ashley and wife Yuuki Vickers, Shelby Abel, Jessica Vanlandingham, Victoria Mason, Rachel Vanlandingham, Jessie McClara, Josie McClara, Alexandra Mason, Bella Mae Carden; and a sister, Florence Schulte of Terre Haute. In addition to her parents and her husband, Delores was welcomed home to heaven by her daughter, Rosemary Madonna Way and her siblings, Albert “Pete” Klain, Frank Klain, Joseph Klain, Agnes Hayne, Pauline Hoffman, Cecilia Navin, Anna Hill, Mary Dowell and Amelia Moroz. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2322 N. 13th ½ St. Rev. Fr. Rick Ginther will officiate with interment following in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Delores may be directed to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
