Obituary of Jerry Atkinson
Jerry Atkinson, age 66, passed away at his home in Terre Haute on August 27th. He was born in Paoli, IN on December 28, 1945 to Gene and Betty Mayden Atkinson. Jerry graduated from Mitchell High School in 1964. A gifted artist, Jerry used his talent in his career as an engineer. He was a design engineer for Press Seal Gasket Co. in Ft. Wayne and retired in 2008. Jerry designed and built extrusion molds including the molds used to create the gaskets for modern car doors. Trained in drafting and CAD technology, Jerry was fortunate enough to travel nationwide on behalf of the industry. Jerry married his wife Carol Foltz on June 6th, 1968. He was an honest man who never left one guessing on where they stood with him. He will be remembered for many reasons but by many as the loyal and compassionate caretaker of his late father Gene. Jerry was loved and will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Carol Atkinson; son, Kevin Eric Atkinson of Hartford City, IN; daughters, Jennifer Nicole Atkinson of Terre Haute and Jaime Lynn (Justin) Alter of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren, Aidan and Lillian Alter; brother, Bradley Gene (Cheryl L.) Atkinson of Centerville, IN; sisters, Patricia Atkinson (Monte Reger) of Orleans, IN, Amy Lynn (Rob) Parker of Mitchell, IN, and Charlotte Rose Atkinson (Bud Kirkman) of Bedford, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Betty, and brother, Eric Lee Atkinson. Memorial Contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Terre Haute Humane Society, P.O. Box 3307, Terre Haute, IN 47803. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30th from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 3:00 PM with Rev. Friar John Bamman OFM Conv. officiating at Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804 (812) 232-3085 with cremation to follow.
