Obituary of Patricia K Morris

IN THE CARE OF

Patricia (Pat) Kathryn Kenlay Morris, 93, a pillar in the Terre Haute community, passed on Oct. 27, 2015. She was born on May 10, 1922, in Danville, Ill., to John D. Kenlay and Opal C. Alkire Kenlay. Pat graduated from Wiley High School (1940), in Terre Haute and attended Indiana State Teachers College. A daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she lived her life to the fullest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan L. Morris Jr., whom she married on July 8, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas; and her brother and sister-in-law, John A. Kenlay and Virginia Clark Kenlay of Terre Haute. Pat is survived by her children, Jennifer Morris Davidson of Terre Haute and her husband Chris, Ivan (Mike) Morris of Terre Haute and his wife Linda and Lesley Wilson of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, J. Tracie Morris (Bret), Stacy Jenkins Baker (Ryan), Shelly Jenkins, Emily Morris Crapo (Edward), Michael Morris (Lacey), Nick Wilson (Hilary) and Claire Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Watkins, Hallie Baker, Andrew Baker, Augi Wilson and Eleanore Crapo. Following her husband’s death in 1974, she and her son, Mike, successfully grew the family trucking business into a thriving enterprise. She devoted herself to her family and the family business, working at the trucking company six days a week for over 47 years. She was example to all that knew her, particularly her family. She was part of the business when Morris Trucking was recognized by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2006 on behalf of the State of Indiana for serving the community for over a half-century. Pat also was a dedicated and active member of the community. She voted in every single election once eligible and volunteered for several local organizations, including the Vigo County Historical Society, the Women’s Department Club of Terre Haute, and the Daughters of the Nile. Pat loved dogs, cats, shopping, and preserving family history. She never missed a birthday or holiday, and she took care of everyone from family to co-workers to friends and strangers alike. She was incredibly benevolent to those around her, always listening and looking for ways to provide support. She was an outstanding example of love, patience, and hard work to her family and in her last days asked that everyone continue to work hard and be kind to each other. The family will receive visitors at Springhill Chapel of DeBaun Funeral Home, in Terre Haute, on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, from 2 to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Monday. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at 11 a.m. with burial at Roselawn Cemetery. The Rev. Kyle Andrews will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made to Terre Haute Humane Shelter or the charity of choice. Online condolences can be made at: www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
