Ruby Alleyne

Ruby E. Alleyne, April 6th 1936 – May 9th, 2018 Ruby was the devoted wife of Leroy Alleyne, loving mom to Paul, Caroline and son-in-law Edward. She received her well-deserved Angel wings after a brief illness. Born & raised on the West Indian island of Barbados she immigrated to the UK in 1956, where she met her soulmate & life partner Leroy, whom she married in 1958. During this time she studied & obtained her UK Nursing Degree. Ruby brought 2 children into this world, Caroline & Paul who she generously bestowed her love, kindness & knowledge unendingly. Her journey didn’t stop in the UK, her family immigrated to the USA in 1969 where she continued her career as an Oncology RN. Upon retirement in 1997, she, Leroy & Paul relocated to Virginia Beach. Ruby was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother & friend. Her caring, loving generous, honest nature was evident to all who met & knew her. She had many hobbies & interest; gardening, baking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery and was accomplished in all. Ruby remained active within the community; 2000-2015 Member of National Council of Negro Women, Former President & Health Officer of the Kempsville Senior Club as well as participant of both the Raffle Committee & Annual Tea Committee. She was a standing member of Kempsville AARP, Chapter 4212, where she served as Health Officer, Co-Chair of Refreshment Committee & Santa’s Stocking & Baking Committee. Ruby leaves behind to treasure her memory her husband of 60 years, Leroy; son, Paul; daughter, Caroline and husband Edward Kent all of Virginia Beach; loving grand-dog, Emma; brother, Wesley and and wife Mary Hope of Apex, NC; niece, Jilene & husband Maurice Spencer; great-niece, Piper Spencer; brother, Anthony and wife Marilyn Hope of Brooklyn, NY; niece, Natasha Fearon; great-nephew, Miles Fearon of UK; nephew, Delano Jodham; great-nephew, Hari Jodham of UK; sister, Gloria and husband Ernest Walcott of Barbados; nephew, Roger Walcott; great-nephew, James Walcott of UK; niece, Debbie and husband Eric Maynard; great-niece, Erica Maynard of Barbados; and cousin, Julia Walkes of New York City. Ruby will be greatly missed by multiple family members and friends here at home, overseas and across State lines. Her love of all things beautiful & living will carry on with each new plant and flower, fresh spring rain & breezes.
