Obituary of Betty F. "Nannie" Mawyer
Betty Jean (Fox) Mawyer, 90, of Afton, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Hospice House in Charlottesville. She was born in Charlottesville, on May 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Clarence Homer and Alma Virginia (Smith) Fox. Betty worked for 35 years with G.E./ Genicom. She was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church, where she was the former pianist. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Knitting, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with family and friends were a few of her favorite hobbies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Blaine Mawyer; brother, Johnny Fox; son-in-law, Wallace Kennedy; and sister-in-law, Thelma Fauber and husband, Carl. Survivors include her daughters, Diana Brown (Clinton) and Carolyn Graves (Charles); brother, Ellis Tilman Fox ( Joan); grandchildren, Tracey Morris (Duane), Kevin Kennedy (Nicci), Lacy Tinder (Carl), and Courtney Graves (Jaimie); 10 great grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Batesville United Methodist Church, 6670 Plank Rd., Afton, with Rev. Liz Buxton officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Episcopal Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be C.E. Fox, Rick Fox, Scott Fox, Kevin Kennedy, Courtney Graves, and Duane Morris. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice of the Piedmont Hospice House, 501 Park St., Charlottesville, VA 22902 and/or Batesville United Methodist Church.
