Obituary of Emma "Bonnie" Croushorn
Emma Susie “Bonnie” Hughes Croushorn of 830 Jefferson Avenue, Waynesboro, died at Shenandoah Nursing home on June 30, 2018 having joined her daughter, Nancy, in heaven 36 hours after Nancy’s death. Their relationship was so uniquely intertwined, it is believed a mother’s instinct chose the timing of her departure into eternal life. Bonnie was a name of endearment from her father who called her “Bonnie Boo” from birth and therefore throughout the rest of her life she was affectionately known as Bonnie. After raising her family, she babysat other children. She also worked at Lockridge Appliance, Leggett in Waynesboro and Belk in Staunton. She retired when her granddaughter was born and assumed the responsibility of Emma’s daytime care allowing her daughter, Molly, to work. Bonnie’s passion was anything she could create, grow, arrange, knit, or crochet into a masterpiece and her hands were always busy regardless of what activity she was watching. Bonnie was born on April 11, 1932 in Nelson County to the late Bland M. and Mary S. (McGann) Hughes. She graduated from Rockfish Valley High School. On June 6, 1957 she married Carl Alexander Croushorn who preceded her in death on January 11, 2017. After a period of living at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California they made their home in Waynesboro. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Croushorn on June 28, 2018. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Molly & Randy Hodge and granddaughter, Emma Elisabeth Hodge, who was her namesake; two brothers, Gordon (Doris) Hughes and Mitchell (Shirley) Hughes; and a special friend of her granddaughter Emma, Nicholas Spino. A celebration of life service will be conducted jointly with her daughter’s service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janet Knott officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Active pallbearers will be Randy Hodge, Nick Spino, Franklin Woodson, Gary Wright, Larry Wood, Marvin Painter and Lance Buckley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bonita Woodson, Polly Broyles, Tobi Broyles, Beverly Shifflett, Julie Berry, Karen Wright, Kaye Foster and Cheryl Summers. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in Bonnie’s memory to the Waynesboro YMCA Family/Youth Sports for Girls’ Basketball, 648 S. Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980. This program was very dear to her daughter’s heart. Relatives and friends may share condolences and memories with the family online by visiting www.reynoldshamrickfuneralhomes.com
