Obituary of Glenn Chrisley Hanger Sr.
Fishersville: Glenn Chrisley Hanger, Sr., 73, of Fishersville, passed away on Sunday November 18, 2012 at Augusta Health surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Hanger was born on October 5, 1939 in Augusta County and was a son of the late Raymond Elias and Louise (Truxell) Hanger Sr. Glenn retired from Columbia Gas after 38 years as a serviceman. He was a member of the Waynesboro Moose and the Eagles Aerie #680. He was also a member of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hanger loved hunting at his camp in Highland County. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 until 1963. Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. On January 17, 1961 he married the former Audrey Jean Wright who survives. In addition to his wife, Glenn is survived by a son, Glenn Chrisley Hanger, Jr., and wife Karen of Waynesboro; four brothers, Raymond E. Hanger Jr., and wife Velma of Lyndhurst, Kenneth P. Hanger and wife Judith of Churchville, Douglas W. Hanger of Churchville, Howard M. Hanger and wife Shirley of Fishersville; two grandchildren, Gregory Warren Hanger and Kristin Rae Hanger; two aunts, Frances Truxell of Staunton, Waltine Rankin of Waynesboro; Sister in law, Peggy W. Quick and husband Harry of Waynesboro; brother in law, Frank Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona H. Thompson, Elizabeth H. Shifflett, and his mother and father in law, Leonard L. and Gladys Wright. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 11 AM at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Mayo officiating. The Hanger family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers for the service will be Kevin Coffey, Jimmy Truxell, Wyatt “Red” Gladwell, Andy Cox, Jeff Wagner, and Derek Alexander. The Hanger family has requested that everyone attending the service for Glenn wear casual clothes in his honor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Preston Yancey Fire Department, P.O. Box 177, Fishersville, VA 22939; or to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 Broad St., Waynesboro, VA 22980. Arrangements entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
