Obituary of Janice J. Parrish
Janice J. Parrish passed away after a brief illness on May 10th at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. Jan was born to James and Gretchen James on January 23, 1939 in Baltimore, MD. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Lake Forest College, and a Master’s degree in Middle Eastern History from Old Dominion University. She also achieved her Master Gardener certification from the Virginia Extension Service in 2009, joining the Louisa County Master Gardeners as a volunteer that same year. She continued volunteering for the Master Gardeners until recently. Jan retired in 2014 from Northrop Grumman/Sperry Marine after 17 years as a Major Subcontracts Administrator. Her retirement allowed her to focus on her passions for gardening, travel, flower arranging – winning several medals at the Virginia State Fair for her arrangements, and spoiling her two dogs Lucy and Greta. Jan loved spending time with her family, watching birds at the many feeders in the yard, and adding gardens wherever there was room for them. Jan leaves behind a loving family: her husband of 30 years Roger, her Brother Steve and wife Renee James of Colorado, her daughter Mary and husband Mike Chapple of Waynesboro, her step-children Roddy and wife Kathy Parrish, Susan Dunn, Kara Lynch; as well as her grandchildren Stephen Nestor, Nick McCann, Ben Lynch, Leah Dunn, Addie Wilson, Beth Endresen, and Cody Chapple; and six great grandchildren. Following cremation, a private memorial service will be held on June 5th at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes at 2:00 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro. Relatives and friends may share condolences and memories with the family by visiting www.reynoldshamrickfuneralhomes.com
