Rita Mae (McKay) Shores, 69, of Waynesboro passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home.
Born October 16, 1948 in Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hamilton and Daisy Minnie Ellen Hall Toth.
Rita was of the Pentecostal faith. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Augusta Correctional Center where she worked as a Correctional Officer. She enjoyed writing kids’ books, drawing and baking. Rita will be remembered as a loving mother, grandma, sister and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Miller, and step daughter Candy Smith.
Survivors include her four children, Michael Shores and wife, Linda of Waynesboro, David Shores and wife, Melissa of Deerfield, Carla Shores of Harrisonburg and Stacey Shores Littlejohn and husband, Chip of Staunton; 23 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings, Ronnie McKay of MO and Connie Dyson of Hampton, VA; stepdaughters, Lisa Hyden of IL and Angie Toth of Galax, VA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. Following the visitation, cremation will take place and there will be no formal services.
