Dorothy Sylvia DeBlass

Dorothy Sylvia DeBlass passed from this world on August 2nd into the arms of her loving Jesus Christ. Dorothy loved her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She adored her three sons and her three granddaughters. They were the focus of her life. While her boys were young she found time to be an active PTA member, a Cub Scout den mother, Recording Secretary and Vice President of the Junior Woman's Club of Westfield, New Jersey, President of the Intermediate Woman's Club of Westfield and later in life organized a division of the Red Hat Society and Queen Mother in Venice, Florida. Dorothy was employed by the Bell System for 20 years and Waterford Wedgewood for thirteen years. Dorothy and Gene moved to Williamsburg from New Jersey in May of 1993. After several years of snow birding in Venice, Florida, they moved to Venice for a short period of time and returned to Williamsburg in 2007. Dorothy loved her volunteer service, she volunteered at Sentara Hospital Gift Shop, James City County Library, Williamsburg Community Chapel, Salvation Army and Grove Christian Outreach and James City Community Church. What motivated her was her love for her Savior and on May 29, 1989 she was baptized and became a new creature in Jesus Christ. She was always comforted knowing He was with her and would never leave. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Blaise Andrew DeBlass, known to all as Gene, her mother, Evelyn Lillian Tamaro, her father, Silvio Christian Tamaro and her sister Gloria Scelfo. Dorothy leaves behind her three sons, Andrew, Matthew and David, their wives, Gail, Debbie and Patti. Her three granddaughters, Delia Maye, Allison and Sydney Jane and their partners Travis Collins, Matthew Koons and Weston Neufeld. Her brother Babe Tamaro and his wife Nancy. Her extended family included Tricia and Timothy Bushey, George and Sondra Schwab and her great grandchildren. Dorothy's family would like to thank her Brandon Wood's and James City Community Church family for all that they have done for, and with, Dorothy over the years. Words will never express our gratitude for the kindness, friendship, love and support you offered her with open arms. As much as everyone knew Dorothy loved flowers, it was her wish to ask people to make a donation in her name to Blooms That Brighten,Inc. or to James City Community Church.
