Dorothy L. Hofmeyer

Dorothy Lovell Landes Hofmeyer passed away at the family farm in Charles City, VA on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. She is preceded in death by her mother, Tabitha Landes Johnson; father, Gordon Landes; brothers, Gordon and Robert Landes; and her daughter, Sherry Hofmeyer Dunn. She was born on March 31, 1940 in Richmond, VA and graduated from Varina High School in 1958 where she was the basketball captain of the Varina Lady Demons. Dorothy was a member of the Jamestowne Society as well as the Community Choir of New Kent and Charles City and originally a member of Poplar Springs Baptist in Henrico. She joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Charles City after she married. She worked for State Planters Bank in Richmond, VA before becoming the bookkeeper for the family farm, Tomahund Plantation. Dorothy loved shopping, going for rides in the car, vacations in the Outer Banks and Massanutten, Starbucks, FaceTiming with her great grandkids, Christmas, especially Christmas teas with her children and grandchildren and the Hallmark Channel. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Arthur Norman Hofmeyer, Jr.; 2 daughters, Bonnie Hofmeyer (Roger Sizemore) and Robin Ellis (Bruce); son-in-law, Mike Dunn; 8 grandchildren; 3 beautiful great grandchildren; and a special niece, Peggy Gravitt. The family will receive family and friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA from 7-9PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021. The funeral service will be on May 2, 2021 at 1PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 19300 The Glebe Lane, Charles City, VA.
