Obituary of Loma Carol McSpadden

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Loma McSpadden, 85, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 21, 2018. She met the love of her life, Sam, while they both attended Beckley College in West Virginia. They married in 1954, and Loma devoted herself to the career she felt most important – homemaker. Loma loved to bowl. She started bowling in her twenties in Williamsburg on duck pin lanes. She soon moved on to ten pin bowling and was hooked. She bowled on leagues from that time until May of this year (over 60 years), bowling two leagues per week and looking forward to the summer league. Loma loved bowling tournaments. She, along with her daughter and many friends, traveled all over the country for 33 years bowling in the USBC national tournament. She often remarked that she would never have seen some of the wonderful sights in our country or made her best and most lasting friendships had it not been for bowling. Mrs. McSpadden faithfully attended James River Baptist Church for many years. She was a former member of the Hampton Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors, and was an active member of Pocahontas Chapter No. 103, Order of the Eastern Star for 23 years. Mrs. McSpadden was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel, who passed away one year ago; her parents, Maude A. and J. Corbett Miller; and her brother, James C. Miller, Jr., all of West Virginia. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Enderle (Gary) of Williamsburg; her son, Tom McSpadden (Leslie) of Kissimmee, Florida; grandsons Jason (Dana) and Brian McSpadden of Florida; a nephew, Jerry D. Miller (Ruth Ann) of West Virginia, and her sweet little cat, “Squeaky.” Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA. Interment will follow the service at Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. McSpadden requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to James River Baptist Church, 4931 Centerville Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188; or to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
