Peter John Sonders

Peter John Sonders, 79, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013 after a year-long battle with malignant melanoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Gerard Sonders and Franziska Muhlbauer Sonders. “Pete” was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 13, 1934 and worked for Rheingold Breweries in Brooklyn for 27 years before moving to Williamsburg. He worked as a lab technician at Anheuser-Busch in Williamsburg for 17 years retiring in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hildegard Lorenz Sonders; two sons, Steven and his wife Carter of Williamsburg, and Kenneth and wife Dawn, also of Williamsburg. He leaves behind two grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Sonders of Williamsburg. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 6 from 3-5 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be offered at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg on Monday, October 7 at 11 AM. A private interment service will follow at the St. Bede Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188 or to the American Cancer Society.
