Obituary of Henry "Lew" Luther Bennett III
Henry Luther Bennett III or better known as “Pastor Lew” went home to be with the Lord and receive that beautiful divine accolade, well done. After fighting a five week battle from Covid and countless other complications he passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was born in Savannah Georgia on September 10, 1955. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Gloria Smythers, his father, Henry Luther Bennett II, his step-fathers, Myles Smythers, Peter Brandetsas, and his sister, Pamela Bowles. Lew was married to his life long partner and devoted loving wife, Jeanine, for over 41 years. Lew and Jeanine were also teammates and "Renegades for Christ". Lew has been a pastor at First Baptist Church Bassett, in Bassett, Virginia for over 25 years. He has pastored and been a part of planting mission churches for decades. Along with his countless accolades and his life‘s work, he continued his education and earned a Masters in Counseling from Luther Rice Seminary, a Masters in Theology from the Oxford School of Theology in London, England, to an Earned Doctorate in Education from South Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest in North Carolina. He always made it a daily practice to read a portion of scripture each morning along with his favorite devotional guide. Lew is survived by his wife Jeanine Bennett, three children Chip Bennett and Wife Crystal, Emily Stutler and her husband Robert, Faith Neel her husband Anthony and 10 grandchildren. Lew also had seven other siblings, Brett Bennett, Judy Howell, Chris Bennett, Dean Brandetsas, George Brandetsas, John Brandetsas and Diane Pilkinton. He not only touched all of our lives but 10s of thousands all over the world in the name of Jesus Christ. The floating visitation service will be Saturday, February 6, at First Baptist Church Bassett in Bassett, Virginia at 11:30 am and the funeral to follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dusty Reynolds, Pastor Doug Ramsey, Monroe Light and Chip Bennett officiating. The funeral service will be lived streamed on First Baptist Church's Facebook and YouTube page. The graveside service will follow the funeral at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA. Due to the governor's requirements for COVID-19, a face covering is required and social distancing is to be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Bassett.
