Obituary of Sheila Sue Shofstall
Sheila Sue (Embry) Shofstall, 70, of Chandler, was killed in an auto collision on March 16, 2021. Sheila held a variety of jobs in her lifetime – bartender, Teamster, cashier, accounts/receivable – but was employed for the last six years as a crisis intervention advocate at Albion Fellows Bacon Center. She graduated in 1969 from Central, where she was on the Honey Bears dance team. She loved to dance - she would even dance from counter to counter when cleaning the kitchen – music at top volume, of course. She also enjoyed a good Bloody Mary while listening to local bands, traveling to new places and attending rock concerts. But most of all she loved spending time with her cherished grandkids – eating out, going to the movies, or just playing Uno at home. The pandemic put all those things on hold for a year – but she just got her second vaccine a month ago and was so looking forward to resuming an active life again, especially hugging her grandkids. Sheila first met her husband Steve in 1969, but when he was drafted in 1970 they drifted apart and lived separate lives, until reconnecting in 2014. They were married in 2016, feeling young and in love again. A 24-day honeymoon driving west visiting nine states and 15 National Parks was highlighted by a 3-day concert near Palm Springs called Desert Trip - Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, The Who and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. The last concert they attended before the world was put in quarantine was in February 2020 in Atlanta – the Eagles. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby S. and Doris Jean Embry, and brothers, Shelby Jean, Ronald “Butch”, Shelby S. Jr, and Melvin Embry. Sheila is survived by her adoring husband, Steve; mother-in-law, June Shofstall; daughter, Chasity Chumbley; stepchildren, Justin, Jessica and John Shofstall; sisters, Vicky (Billy) Barnes and Lisa Embry; sister-in-law, Sherry (Jeff) May and brother-in-law, David (Sandra) Shofstall; grandchildren, Jaiehlyn, Heighdyn and Ahbree Chumbley, Frankie Miller and Stellan Lewis; nephew, Will “BJ” (Rachel) Barnes and grandnieces, Cora and Mary Ann Barnes; 22 nieces and nephews of Steve; former husband (but still close friend), Tommie Chumbley, and rescue cat Tigger. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, Rev. Phil Hoy officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20th, and from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Albion Fellows Bacon Center. Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderNewburghChapel.com.
