IN THE CARE OF
Leppert Mortuaries - Nora
James Joseph Ackelmire was born on October 19, 1957, to John and Beatrice Ackelmire. He was raised in Indianapolis, graduated from Cathedral High School, and served 3 years in the army in Germany. Shortly after returning home to Indianapolis, he suffered a traumatic brain injury from a car accident, and was never able to live on his own afterwards.
Despite his disability Jim always had a positive and gentle disposition, and showed great empathy toward others. He loved his country and his fellow human beings. For many years he attended St. Luke Catholic Church daily and volunteered at the VA medical center. He never complained or felt sorry for himself, and gratefully accepted the help others offered him.
The staff of Fairway Village, on South Keystone Avenue, have our deepest respect and gratitude for their loving care and treatment of him during the last several years.
Jim is survived by his brother, Fred Ackelmire, and his sister, Ann Fahey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.
Services for James Ackelmire will be held at Leppert Mortuary - Nora Chapel on Friday, April 2, 2021. Visitation for James will begin at 10:00 am and conclude at time of services at 11:00 am. Interment follows at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences available at: www.leppertmortuary.com
