Obituary of Ethel "Lee" Calvin
Ethel “Lee” Calvin was born on March 14, 1937 in Glen Allan, Mississippi to the late Herman and Ethel (Pratt) Griffin. She departed this life and was met by her Savior on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Lee was born the seventh of eleven children. She accepted Christ at the age of 11 under the leadership of Rev. Mc David in Lamont, Mississippi. She attended Cooper Grade School and O’Bannon High in Greenville, Mississippi before moving to Fort Wayne. She was a Central High School graduate in the class of 1955. After hearing so much about big city living from her aunts, Lee moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1960’s. While there, she met her prince charming, Eddie Calvin, whom she later wed. They were blessed with one beautiful daughter, La Petite. Missing her family, she moved back to Fort Wayne. She was employed by Hutner’s Paris, General Electric and United Technologies, retiring in 2000 from GE. Lee was an avid reader. She could quote scripture and was a true bible scholar. She enjoyed watching family videos, The Young and the Restless, traveling, shopping, talking on the phone communicating with aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews from far and near. She was the link that kept the family together. Lee leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lottie (Jeremy) Gardner; grandsons, James (Jay) Simmons and Calvin Gardner; great-grandchildren, Deniah, Demetrius, and Danaya Calvin; brothers, Rev. Virgil Griffin Sr., Samuel Griffin and Harry (Willie) Griffin; sisters, Vera McVea, and Thelma Russell; aunt, Lorene Taylor (Cleveland, Oh); and an abundance of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl, Herman, McKinley and sisters Willa Mae Boston and Virginia Lynch-Shepherd, and grandson, Denyran Calvin.
