Homer E. "Gene" Carter

Homer Eugene “Gene” Carter, age 86, of Solsberry, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Garden Villa in Bloomington. Born May 16, 1935 in Mitchell, Indiana, he was the son of Harry and Maude (Edwards) Carter. He retired from Otis Elevator where he was a metal finisher. Gene was a “jack-of-all-trades” and skilled craftsman enjoying restoring antiques and refinishing furniture. Everyone enjoyed his great ability to tell a good story. Gene in his free time loved being an outdoorsman, hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Gene is survived by his son, Ronald (Melody) Carter, of Solsberry; two daughters, Rita (Tom) Bush, of Ellettsville and Gina (David) Harding, of Monrovia; six grandchildren, Scott (Erin) Bush, Ciara (Aaron) Cunningham, Ross (Danielle) Carter, Wesley Carter, Fawn Harding and Seth Harding and five great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Carter, two brothers, Bob Carter and Bill Carter and four sisters, Lois Burk, Della Gilbert, Ruby Carter and Olive Carter.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Ron Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.
