GLORIA L. HUXOLL, 89, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Golden Years Homestead. She was born in Harlan and served in the Navy Waves during World War II. She retired in 1986 as Supervisor of the Dental Hygienists' Program at IPFW, which she helped establish in 1964. She previously had worked for various dentists as a hygienist. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church; graduated from Harlan High School and IU School of Dentistry; served as secretary of Lutheran Hospital Board of Directors; was president of Lutheran Health Service Society (formerly the Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary) from 1993 to 1995; and was a member of Isaac Knapp Dental Hygienists' Association. "She and her husband, enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV. She loved playing golf, bowling and water skiing even when she was in her 60's." Surviving are her daughter, Kelly D. Huxoll of Fort Wayne; two nieces; four nephews; 13 great nieces and great nephews; and seven great-great nieces and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W., in 1985; parents, Jennings B. and Amelia Christina Horn; brothers, Richard J. Horn and Dexter H. Horn; and sister, Virginia A. Peck. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd., with calling one hour prior. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Preferred memorials to Isaac Knapp Dental Hygienists Association or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
