Obituary of Hallie Rives Amiel
In Memory of Hallie Rives Amiel December 23, 1916 – April 25, 2013 Hallie Rives Amiel of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the age of 96. She was born December 23, 1916, in East St. Louis, Illinois and was one of four children of Dr. Albert Rives and his wife Helen. Upon graduating from the University of Illinois in 1938, Hallie married Henri Joseph Amiel and was his beloved wife for 38 years until his death in 1977. During their years together, Hallie travelled with Henri overseas, raising her three children in Vienna, Austria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Madrid, Spain and Bogota, Columbia. As the wife to a director of Catholic Charities, Hallie embraced local cultures and made life a fun and enlightening adventure for her children. She loved to travel and did so extensively in Europe and South America but never forgot her Midwestern roots while taking care to make sure her children retained their American heritage. Hallie and Henri retired to Newburgh, Indiana in 1975 where Hallie was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church until she moved in November of 2011 to be with her son in Dallas, Texas. Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, Henri Amiel, and her daughter, Lucie Amiel, and is survived by her daughter, Christine McDaniel, her son Paul Amiel, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Committal Service will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Indiana, followed by a Memorial Service at St John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, officiated by Father Thomas Kessler.
