Louis Milton Theisz
November 4, 1926 – September 8, 2013

Louis M. Theisz, Jr., 86, passed away on September 8, 2013. He was born on November 4, 1926 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Bertha and Louis M. Theisz, Sr.
Mr. Theisz graduated from Maury High School but not before he enlisted, at 17, in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and served in the Pacific Theater during 1944 and 1945. In 1946 he returned to home to receive his high school diploma. Upon graduation, he entered the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Norfolk, VA and soon enlisted in the Army.
In 1951 during his first assignment, in Germany he met Traute and they married in Berlin and then served 20 years retiring as a Sergeant Major in 1969. During his service career he served in Hawaii, the Philippines, Okinawa, Korea, and Germany. Among his decorations are the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Defense Service Metal, WWII Victory Medal, United Nations Service Metal, American Occupation Medal (GR) and Good Conduct Medal w/4 clasps. He was one of the few in the US Army to have the US Navy Occupation Medal (China).
Upon retiring from the military his next career took him into civil service where he worked 20 years as a demonstrator and scale model builder for the Navy and Marine Corps at the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk, VA.
Louis loved to dance, fish and crab, make BBQ sauce, and have his steak every Saturday night. He and his wife also loved the beach and to travel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Traute Theisz, son Eddy Theisz and his wife Carla, daughter Linda Halstead and her husband Arthur, one grandson, Jason Smith, and three great grandchildren, August, Havilah, Joshua Phineas.
Special thanks to Mrs. Pauley who works so diligently for our veterans at the V. A. Office in Virginia Beach, the many caregivers who cared for Mr.Theisz during his illness, the physicians, nursing staff, aides, and assistants, as well as the wonderful custodial staff who all did such a remarkable job at Brighton Gardens and the Hampton Roads Veteran’s Community Living Center. Thank you for the compassion and consideration shown to Mr. Theisz and all of the continuing care they provided.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2:00PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA.
