Michelle Elaine Pettit Jaquess, 38, of Grammer, slipped away quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Jaquess was the New Year’s baby for Jennings County being born January 1, 1975 in Madison, IN. She was the daughter of Perry and the late Julie Pettit. She graduated from Jennings County High School in 1993, where she was active in the band program. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Indiana University, graduating in 1997, and a Master of Science in Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 2003. She taught elementary school for sixteen years, all but one year at Scipio Elementary School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing board games and card games, scrapbooking and photography. One of her greatest joys was to share her story of Christ with others. She married Ben Jaquess on June 24, 1995 in North Vernon, IN. He survives, along with their four daughters Jessica Ann Jaquess, Amanda Michelle Jaquess, Sarah Rose Jaquess, and Jenna Marie Jaquess, all of Grammer. Other survivors include her father, Perry Pettit of Dupont, sisters Tanya (Kevin) Burnette of North Vernon and Sherry (John) Devore of Collins, OH, a brother Eric (Erin) Pettit of Dupont, nieces Amberly (Tony) Lopez, Ashley (Brian) Millis, Samantha Denny, Kayla Pettit, Kelsey Pettit, Hailey Pettit, Amber Burnette and Eliza Burnette, nephews Perry Tracht, Adam (Christine) Jaquess, Stewart Jaquess, Daymond Craddock, and Ethan Pettit, grandparents Delight Heckelman and Sam and Peggy Pettit. She will also be missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and her mother-in-law, along with many friends and church family. She was preceded in death by her mother Julie Pettit and a grandfather Carl Heckelman. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of North Vernon or to the Pregnancy Care Center. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com. Funeral Service will be at First Baptist Church of North Vernon on Saturday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street in Columbus and from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at First Baptist Church in North Vernon. www.myers-reed.com
