Lawrence H. Adams Jr., age 68, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday, December 13, 2013. He is the loving husband of 46 years to Charlene (nee Kalbac) Adams; loving father of five children: Lawrence E. (Amanda) Adams of Griffith, IN, Sheila M. (Phillip) Cain of TN, Sherri M. Irsa of Portage, IN, Sarah L. (Jonathon) Baumann of Indianapolis, IN and Rebecca A. Adams of Schererville, IN; loving grandfather of six grandchildren: Ashley, Jonathan and Courtney Adams, Madelyn and Samantha Cain, and Ethan Irsa; devoted brother to four sisters: Cora Adams of Lake Station, IN, Elaine (James) Baker of Florida, Penny (Danny) Jackson of Missouri and Shirley (Joseph) Breiten of Missouri; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence and Cora Adams; and niece Kimberly Ozelie. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with Pastor Derek Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 3:00-9:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home. Mr. Adams was a member of the Hessville Baptist Church and was currently employed at C.C. Hooks & Associates in Gary with 16 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and trains. Lawrence coached girls softball and baseball for the Edison Little League. He was an avid story teller and jokester and was a Civil War and Hammond history enthusiast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lawrence's loving memory to the Joe Betustak, Jr. Memorial Foundation (FOR CANCER) or the Humane Society Calumet Area.
