Dennie Wayne Black

Dennie Wayne Black, 45, of Virginia Beach, formerly of Amherst County, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Tammy Ragland Black.
Born February 5, 1968 in Danville, he was the son of Audrey Marie Murphy Black of Danville and the late Edward Lee Black. Dennie was a police officer with the Department of the Navy and a former deputy with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Department. Dennie was a Captain with the U.S. Army Reserve, and had recently returned from deployment with the 316th Combat Support Headquarters, Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait. He was of Catholic faith.
In addition to his mother, Dennie is survived by his daughter, Lauren Black of Radford and her significant other James Newton; a sister, Wendy B. Mies and husband John of Greensboro, NC and four nephews, John E. Mies, Robert F. Mies, and Peyton Bryant and Holden Bryant.
Memorial services for Dennie and funeral services for Tammy will be held together at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Clifford Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
