Obituary of Thomas Robert Boxler, Sr.
Thomas Robert Boxler, Sr., 82, of Waynesboro passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Augusta Health. Born August 18, 1933 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Catherine (Palm) Boxler. On August 16, 1958 he married Dorothea Elizabeth (Rish) Boxler. The two shared a blessed union of 57 years together. Thomas was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Staunton. He was a U.S. veteran, having served his country honorably with the Army. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture Factory, where he worked as manager of the maintenance department. Thomas joined the Knights of Columbus in 1996, moving through the degree to be 4th Degree Knight in three years. He almost immediately became one of the hardest workers, helping with fund raisers, getting things for the yard sales and making a podium and two cabinets for the hall. For several years he had coffee and cakes for the men at the Knights of Columbus meetings. Thomas located an old trailer, which the Knights of Columbus purchased and turned into a mobile dispenser for picnics, etc. He was always there to help with any projects within the church and community. Thomas will be sorely missed by all of his fellow Knights, family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, MaDee N. Boxler and two brothers, James and Charles R. Boxler, Jr. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his children, Thomas R. Boxler, Jr. and Carla Floyd of Swoope, William J. Boxler and wife, Sharon of Charlottesville, Janice M. Pence and Skeeter Dove of Culpeper, Susan A. Shaheen of Blacksburg and Charles R. Boxler and wife, Sara of Vinton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred, Martha, Clara, Ethel, Mary Theresa, JoAnne and Peggy; one brother, Richard Boxler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
