Obituary of Thomas Richard Costello
Thomas Richard Costello, III, 67, of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017. Thomas Richard Costello lll was born in Dexter, Maine and was also a long-time resident of Virginia. Tom had a very interesting and varied life. He grew up on a farm in Maine and learned how to drive on a tractor and milk lots of cows. He served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps and went through three tours in Vietnam. The Marine Corps taught him how to parachute jump, along with many other things, but he found a love in parachute jumping and continued to do it after he got out of the military service. Tom became a cook at the Globe & Laurel, a restaurant outside the Marine Corps base Quantico, after he finished his enlistment in the Marine Corps. He was also at one time a lumberjack, which he promises was the hardest job he ever had to do. Tom was also a car salesman before he found his true passion in life, a PWC firefighter/paramedic. He began PWC Rookie school at the age of 39 and then worked happily as a paramedic and paramedic instructor. He continued as a firefighter and paramedic until he retired in 1997 at the age of 47. Thomas Richard Costello III was a very hardworking and honest man. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and always put his family first. He was generous and caring and passed all his knowledge and wisdom on to his children and grandchildren. He had the most beautiful smile and kind spirit, his heart was gold despite his humanity. Tom was loved by everyone he met and impacted everyone in a different way. Most of all Tom will always be remembered as the loving husband to Patti Costello, they had the privilege to celebrate 28 years of marriage together. The love and adoration he showed his wife and family everyday will forever burn bright in the souls of his family. Tom might be gone from the world physically but he will forever live healthy and pure spiritually in everyone’s hearts. He is survived by his wife, Patti; Sister in law, Ann Hyde; his children, Theresa Costello, Michelle Jones, Robin Soto (Son in law Sam Soto), Kelly Hood; his brother and two sisters; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas “Tommy” Costello IV. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Hope, camphopemission.com, or PTSD Foundation of American, PTSDUSA.org
