Roland “Rolly” Swan, 82, of Fremont, IN, formerly of Vestal, NY went to be with the Lord surrounded by his wife and sons May 27, 2018. Rolly, son of Stewart and Jesse Swan, retired in 1994 from NYSEG after 37 years of service. Rolly started his career as a laborer then became a lineman, and eventually moved indoors as first a Section Operator and ultimately a System operator. Rolly enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and was a mentor and counselor providing enthusiastic, positive spiritual guidance to countless teens and young adults. He was loved by all who met him and followed in his father’s footsteps proudly creating flower and tomato gardens which he was delighted to boast of to all who would listen. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, Rolly was actively involved in numerous leadership and teaching positions at Tracy Creek Memorial Church in Vestal including church choir, Sunday School and youth group leader, Bible quizzing and was a member of Men for Missions. Rolly is survived by his one true love, Ann Marie (Richards) his wife of 61 years, four sons Steve (Kelly) Sheridan, IN, Rick (Mary) Rochester, NY, Scott (Kim) Vestal, NY and Todd (Laurie) Vestal, NY along with Grandchildren Jessica (Joe) Andrako, Sarah, Casey (Nicole), Jordan (Abbey), Tricia, Lindsay, Kevin, Jake and Alex along with 9 great grandchildren and sister’s in law Virginia Dix, Sharon Mumma, Carolyn Richards and Nita Swan and Brother’s in law Mack (Mini) Richards and Kiler (Brenda) Richards. Rolly was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Stewart, Charles and Tom, sister Nancy Hugg and sisters in-law Sally, Ila, Dorothy and Jeanette Swan and brother in law Bill Richards. Celebratory services for Rolly’s Indiana community will be held on June 9 at the Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana with public greetings at 10:30 followed by a brief celebration at 11:30 and a meal of fellowship to immediately thereafter. There will be a separate celebration on June 16 at Tracy Creek Memorial Church in Vestal, NY, with public greetings at 10:00, followed by a brief celebration at 11:30 with reception to follow at the Vestal Elks Club. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to any of the following organizations: Tracy Creek Memorial Church in Vestal, NY where they spent so much of their lives, Fairview Missionary Church, Angola IN where they spent Rolly’s final 10 years in fellowship, Lakeland Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Angola, IN or Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola, IN both of which provided tremendous support to Rolly during his numerous physical rehabilitations as well as peaceful comfort during his final days.
