Diana J. Baker

Diana Jane Baker, 76, of Bloomington died Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Bell Trace Health and Living. She was born February 8, 1942 in Rushville, IN to Fred W. McGinnis Jr. and Jane Elizabeth Ertel McGinnis. She was a counselor and dental hygienist for 55 years. Diana was an active, fun loving lady. She sang in IU's Singing Hoosiers in college and the "Lost Brothers" as a rock and roll star later in life. Among her many accomplishments, she volunteered for the Dean of Students in Mediation Services, which she created. She was the past president of Stonebelt, Big Brothers - Big Sisters, Boys Club and Fairview PTA. Most recently she was awarded the Charles W. Gish lifetime achievement award for community services by the Indiana Dental Association. Survivors include her children, Dr. Lisa J. Baker (partner Dr. Barbara K. Siwy), Michael David Baker (fiance Barzilai Martinez) and Sally Elizabeth Baker-Branam (husband Ira Lee Branam) all of Bloomington; her life partner, Thomas L. Carter of Bloomington; a sister, Marilyn Hall Lambert (husband David Lambert) of Greenwood; two nieces, Annie Houston and Erin McGinnis; eight nephews, J. W. and Josh McGinnis, Dan and Carl Baker, Sean and David Bauer, Dr. Steven Vallery and Kevin Hall; and three furry grandchildren, Poncho, Pancake and Shiva. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Curtis Jay McGinnis. Diana attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and Unity Church of Bloomington. She enjoyed gardening, music, traveling and supporting I.U. athletics. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM with a service to follow at 5:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
