James Walker Burton, Sr., 77, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Sandston and retired from the Virginia Army National Guard after 33 years of service. He was past Master of Masonic Lodges No. 219 and No. 272. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mae Burton; sister, Claudia Minor; and brother, Bobby Burton and is survived by his wife, Virginia Burton; three children, Debbie Short (Bryan), Muriel Baxter (Richard) and James Burton, Jr.; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Claude Burton (Betty); and sister-in-law, Darlene Burton. The family will receive friends Friday, August 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231 where services will be held Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 14, at 1 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 3868 Antioch Church Road, Sandston, VA 23150.
