Irene (Ethel) Sommers

Irene (Ethel) Sommers, 99, died at 8:00am Saturday, March 9, 2019, just shy of 100 years old at North Woods Village in Kokomo, Indiana. Irene was born June 1, 1919 to Vade and Bessie (Creason) Williams in Howard County. She married Floyd L. Sommers February 2, 1946 in Russiaville. He preceded her in death January 15, 1993. Irene graduated from Clay High School in Kokomo, Indiana. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for various ages during her time there. She was very active within the church, and lived her life to serve the Lord. Irene was a loving wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend. Surviving Irene are her sister Betty Woods (Harold) and family, Steve Woods, Carol Muth (Scott), and Debbie Woods of Wisconsin, her loving niece Mary Jane Gartin of Cutler, IN., great nephews Chris Gartin (Donita), Chad Gartin (Chanda), great niece Charisma Soria (Jesus), great great nieces and nephews Sarah, Scott, Elizabeth, Jordan, Isaac, Isabella, Aiden, Eric, and Dustin, and several extended family members who were loved, Mary Carden, Frieda Bowman, Irene Sommers, Judy Sommers, Terry, Joni, Marcia, Janice, Dianna, Linda, Richey and Rick. Those who have preceded her in death are her parents, her husband Floyd, sisters Ruth and Mary, brothers Henry, Ralph, Roy, and Richard, nephews Levi, Floyd, Mike and Ralph. If there ever were angels on earth, it was Irene and her husband Floyd. Who knows who met Irene in heaven first, Floyd or the Lord. Funeral Services for Irene will take place Wednesday March 13, 2019 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street; 725 N. Main Street in Kokomo at 3:00pm with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Friends and family may visit from 1-3pm prior to the service. A burial will follow the service at Mast-Hensler cemetery.
